If you have been looking for an easy way to add rich, creamy flavor to your carnivore meals, this Carnivore Alfredo Sauce is sure to become one of your favorites.
Made with butter, heavy cream, freshly grated Parmesan cheese, and salt, this simple sauce comes together in about 15 minutes and requires no flour, starches, or plant-based thickeners.
It's a creamy carnivore Alfredo sauce recipe that is perfect for spooning over chicken, steak, ground beef, seafood, or just about any protein that could use a little extra richness.
And if you follow a more flexible carnivore or ketovore approach, I have also included optional seasonings that let you add even more flavor without changing the basic recipe.
I already use a creamy Alfredo-style sauce in my Carnivore Chicken Alfredo, and it has become such a popular part of that recipe that I knew it deserved its own standalone version.
This recipe is thicker and richer, making it an easy carnivore sauce you can use in all sorts of meals.
Why You'll Love This Carnivore Alfredo Sauce

Sometimes a simple piece of meat is all you need, but there are also days when adding a flavorful sauce can make your carnivore meals much more enjoyable.
That's where this recipe shines.
This homemade carnivore Alfredo sauce is:
- Rich and creamy
- Ready in about 15 minutes
- Made with just four basic ingredients
- Naturally low in carbohydrates
- Made without flour or cornstarch
- Easy to prepare in one saucepan
- Perfect for meal prep
- Delicious with beef, chicken, pork, seafood, and eggs
- Easy to customize for strict carnivore or ketovore
It is especially helpful when you want to add a little more fat and flavor to leaner cuts of meat such as chicken breast.
Is Alfredo Sauce Carnivore?
Traditional Alfredo sauce can be surprisingly close to carnivore already since its primary ingredients are typically butter, cream, and Parmesan cheese.
The problem comes when recipes add ingredients such as flour, cornstarch, garlic, herbs, or other plant-based ingredients.
For this carnivore Alfredo sauce, the base recipe uses only butter, heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, and salt.
Those following a strict carnivore diet can stop right there.
If you are following a ketovore or more relaxed carnivore approach, you can also add black pepper, garlic powder, or Italian seasoning according to your preference.
I like giving you both options because there is no reason someone following strict carnivore should have to sort through a recipe filled with ingredients they prefer to avoid.
Ingredients Needed To Make Carnivore Alfredo Sauce
One of the things you'll appreciate most about this recipe is how short the ingredient list is.
The complete measurements are available in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Butter: Provides richness and helps create the base of the sauce. I use unsalted butter so I can control the final amount of salt.
- Heavy cream: Gives Alfredo its signature creamy consistency and helps the sauce thicken as it gently simmers.
- Parmesan cheese: Freshly grated Parmesan melts into the cream and gives the sauce its salty, cheesy flavor.
- Salt: Enhances the flavor of the butter, cream, and cheese.
For ketovore or less-strict carnivore, you can also add black pepper, garlic powder, or Italian seasoning.
Why I Recommend Freshly Grated Parmesan

If there is one tip I do not want you to skip, it is using freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
Pre-shredded and pre-grated cheeses often contain anti-caking ingredients that help prevent the cheese from sticking together in the package.
Unfortunately, those same ingredients can sometimes derail you from your carnivore diet.
Grating the Parmesan yourself also allows it to melt much more smoothly into the warm cream.
It only takes an extra minute or two, and it can make a noticeable difference in the finished sauce.
How To Make Carnivore Alfredo Sauce

Making homemade Alfredo sauce is much easier than you might think.
Start by melting the butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat.
Once the butter has melted, pour in the heavy cream and stir the two together.
Allow the cream mixture to reach a very gentle simmer. You do not want it rapidly boiling.
Let it simmer for a few minutes until it begins to thicken slightly.
Next, reduce the heat to low and gradually stir in the freshly grated Parmesan cheese.
Adding the cheese slowly rather than dumping it in all at once helps it melt evenly into the cream.
Continue stirring until the Parmesan has completely melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and season with salt to taste.
If you are including any of the optional ketovore seasonings, stir them in at this point.
Let the Alfredo sauce rest for a couple of minutes before serving. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
The Secret To Smooth Carnivore Alfredo Sauce
Alfredo sauce is simple, but temperature matters.
Once you add Parmesan cheese, resist the temptation to turn up the heat.
High heat can cause the proteins in the cheese to tighten too quickly, which can leave your sauce grainy rather than creamy.
Keep the temperature low and add the Parmesan gradually while stirring.
You also do not need flour, cornstarch, xanthan gum, or another thickener for this recipe.
Heavy cream naturally reduces as it cooks, and the Parmesan helps give the sauce body.
The sauce will also become noticeably thicker after it sits for a few minutes.
Strict Carnivore Versus Ketovore Alfredo Sauce
One of the advantages of making your own sauce is that you can prepare it according to the version of carnivore that works for you.
For a strict carnivore Alfredo sauce, use:
- Butter
- Heavy cream
- Parmesan cheese
- Salt
That's it.
If you include seasonings in your carnivore lifestyle or follow more of a ketovore approach, you can add:
- Black pepper
- Garlic powder
- Italian seasoning
You could even experiment with your preferred combination of seasonings depending on what you plan to serve with the sauce.
The important thing is that the basic sauce does not depend on those extras to taste delicious.
What To Serve With Carnivore Alfredo Sauce

Forget the pasta. There are plenty of carnivore-friendly ways to put a rich Alfredo sauce to good use.
Try spooning it over:
- Grilled or pan-seared chicken
- Chicken thighs
- Ribeye steak
- Sirloin steak
- Ground beef
- Hamburger patties
- Pork chops
- Pork tenderloin
- Shrimp
- Salmon
- Scallops
- Eggs
- Meatballs
You can also use it as a dipping sauce for steak bites or cooked chicken.
And, of course, one of my favorite ways to enjoy it is in my Carnivore Chicken Alfredo.
Can I Use This Alfredo Sauce With Ground Beef?
If you are wondering if this Alfredo sauce pairs well with ground beef, it absolutely does.
Would you like to save this?
Ground beef and Alfredo sauce make a surprisingly delicious combination and can be an easy option when you are looking for another way to serve ground beef.
Brown your ground beef, drain any excess liquid if necessary, and then spoon some warm carnivore Alfredo sauce over the top.
You can also stir the sauce directly into the cooked beef for a creamy ground beef bowl.
How To Make Alfredo Sauce Thicker
Keep in mind that Alfredo sauce thickens as it cools, so give it a couple of minutes before deciding that it is too thin.
If you still want it thicker, return it to very low heat and allow it to simmer gently for another minute or two.
You can also add a small amount of additional freshly grated Parmesan.
Avoid boiling the sauce in an attempt to thicken it faster since this increases the likelihood that the dairy will separate.
What If My Alfredo Sauce Is Too Thick?
This is an easy problem to fix.
Simply return the sauce to low heat and stir in a small amount of heavy cream until it reaches the consistency you prefer.
Add the cream a little at a time so you do not accidentally thin the sauce too much.
This trick is also helpful when reheating leftover Alfredo sauce since it naturally becomes much thicker after refrigeration.
Why Did My Alfredo Sauce Turn Grainy?
A grainy Alfredo sauce is usually caused by too much heat or cheese that did not melt properly.
For the best results:
- Keep the heat low.
- Do not allow the cream to rapidly boil.
- Use freshly grated Parmesan.
- Add the cheese gradually.
- Stir continuously as the Parmesan melts.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat once the sauce is smooth.
Remember that Parmesan does not need intense heat to melt. Gentle heat is your friend when making Alfredo sauce.
Can I Make Carnivore Alfredo Sauce Ahead Of Time?
Yes, although Alfredo sauce is at its very best when freshly prepared.
You can make it ahead and keep it refrigerated in an airtight container for up to three days.
Since the sauce will become quite thick once chilled, do not worry if it looks much firmer when you take it out of the refrigerator.
It will loosen again as you gently reheat it.
How To Reheat Carnivore Alfredo Sauce

The key to reheating Alfredo sauce is using low heat.
Place the refrigerated sauce in a small saucepan and warm it slowly over low heat, stirring frequently.
If necessary, add a splash of heavy cream to help restore its smooth, pourable consistency.
Avoid reheating it over high heat since this can cause the butter and cream to separate.
Can You Freeze Carnivore Alfredo Sauce?
I do not recommend freezing this sauce.
Cream and Parmesan sauces can separate after freezing and thawing, which can result in a grainy or oily consistency.
Thankfully, this recipe takes only about 15 minutes to prepare, so I prefer making a fresh batch or storing leftovers in the refrigerator for a few days.
Does Carnivore Alfredo Sauce Have Carbs?
Although this recipe does not contain flour, starches, or added sugar, heavy cream and Parmesan cheese naturally contain small amounts of carbohydrates.
Based on the ingredients used in this recipe, one serving has approximately 2 grams of net carbs.
The exact amount can vary slightly depending on the brands of cream, butter, and Parmesan you use, so always check your individual labels if you are tracking carbohydrates closely.
Can I Make Carnivore Alfredo Sauce Without Heavy Cream?
Heavy cream is an important ingredient in this particular recipe because it creates the rich texture and helps the Parmesan melt into a creamy sauce.
There are carnivore-style sauces that use combinations of butter, broth, cream cheese, egg yolks, or other animal-based ingredients instead, but they will have a different consistency and flavor.
For this recipe, I recommend sticking with heavy cream for the best results.
Does This Recipe Need Cream Cheese?
No.
Some low-carb and carnivore Alfredo recipes use cream cheese as a thickener, but it is not necessary here.
Heavy cream and freshly grated Parmesan create plenty of body on their own.
Leaving out cream cheese also keeps the ingredient list simple and gives this sauce a more traditional Alfredo-style flavor.
