Here are the ingredients you need to make this bacon-wrapped asparagus, a wonderful vegetable option.

Note that the full printable recipe card, along with the nutritional facts, is at the bottom of the page.

  • Asparagus spears, trimmed. Choose firm bright colored asparagus that is medium-thick.
  • Bacon, center cut, thin slices cut in half. Don’t choose thick slices, as they will take too long to cook, won’t allow the bacon to crisp properly, and will overcook the asparagus in the process. Thinner bacon produces the best results.
  • Olive oil or avocado oil
  • Sea salt
  • Black pepper, freshly cracked pepper is best
  • Garlic powder

This recipe individually wraps each asparagus; the nutritional information listed reflects this. However, you can also wrap asparagus in bundles of two thin asparagus spears with a slice of bacon.

Both ways work well. As long as the spears are thin, the baking time will be about the same.

Flavor Variation

To change up the flavor, try these variations:

  • Add chipotle powder to the olive oil mixture for a smokey, spicy flavor profile.
  • Once the bacon wrapped asparagus stalks are baked, give them a very light drizzle of balsamic vinegar glaze.

Start by preheating the oven to 400°F. Then in a small bowl, you will combine the olive oil with the dry spices.

Then wash, dry, and trim the woody ends of each of the asparagus spears and cut each bacon slice in half lengthwise.

Next, brush each spear with the olive oil mixture and wrap the asparagus in bacon, starting at the bottom and spiraling up to the top.

Place the bacon-wrapped asparagus on a baking sheet with a wire rack seem down. A wire wrack allows for better airflow and will ensure the asparagus and bacon cook evenly and crisp up.

Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until the bacon is crispy and the asparagus is tender.

You can also bake on a parchment-lined baking sheet, but the asparagus and bacon will not be as crispy.

As you can see, this recipe is incredibly easy to follow and only takes a few minutes to prepare. Plus, it’s a great way to incorporate more vegetables into your diet while still enjoying the delicious taste of bacon.
