Clocking in at 4.5 net carbs, these low-carb donuts are a sweet treat.

These cake donuts are baked, making the recipe easy to follow. Seriously, if you haven’t tried making keto donuts and you also happen to love strawberries, then this recipe is for you.

Using sour cream in the batter of these strawberry keto donuts ensures they have a moist, tender crumb. I also added fresh, chopped strawberries because I really wanted to pack this recipe with strawberry flavor. 

The use of a combination of almond and coconut flour plays a role in getting the perfect cake donut texture.  If you are worried that coconut flour can overpower the strawberry flavor, trust me, that’s not the case.

How To Make Keto Strawberry Donuts

To make these low carb strawberry donuts, start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees and greasing two 6-cavity donut pans. I find that a buttered donut pan works best.

Then melt 1/4 cup of unsalted butter and set it aside. In a large mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients: almond flour, coconut flour, sugar substitute, baking powder, and salt.

Next, you’ll add all the wet ingredients—the sour cream, melted butter, vanilla extract, and three eggs—one at a time to the dry ingredients, and mix the batter using an electric mixer until fully incorporated.

Fold the chopped strawberries, then pipe the batter into the prepared donut pans, filling them just to the rim.

Bake for 25–30 minutes until fully cooked, then allow the donuts to cool to room temperature before removing them from the mold.

Once removed, place the donuts on a baking rack and make the icing and strawberry jam sauce. For the icing, melt butter and mix it with the confectioner’s sugar substitute, strawberry extract, sea salt, and hot water.

Dip the donuts into the icing and set them on a baking rack to dry. For the jam sauce, cook all the ingredients over medium heat, then drizzle a small amount over the iced donuts.

Allow the donuts to come to room temperature before serving for the best flavor.

Any leftover sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Store the iced donuts in a sealed, airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or freeze them for up to 3 weeks without the strawberry jam sauce.

Sugar-Free Strawberry Jam Sauce

Some would argue that adding a drizzle of sugar-free strawberry jam sauce is totally unnecessary. Well, tell that to my family.

When I asked them what they thought about the idea, they all agreed that it would be a welcomed addition and then proceeded to add more to their donuts. 

As a plus, you’ll have a little leftover to spread on your favorite keto bread, so there’s that.

The recipe only calls for a tablespoon per donut, but you can certainly use less or leave it out altogether. If you opt not to use it, you can reduce the carbs by one net carb per donut. 

Sugar-Free Sweetener Options

As far as which sugar substitute to use for these keto strawberry donuts, I have a few recommendations. If you are a regular on our site, you know I’m a huge fan of Lakanto Monk Fruit. 

This is because the texture of Lakanto is spot on since there is barely any aftertaste. It is a monk fruit and erythritol blend.

I love that Lakanto Monk Fruit is all-natural, and it gets its sweetness from antioxidants called mogrosides, instead of fructose or sucrose. And it has zero calories and zero glycemic impact. 

I’m also partial to Swerve, another erythritol blend.  It works well in this keto donut recipe and is a great choice if you are looking for a sugar substitute that has no bitter aftertaste and measures just like sugar.

It’s also a sugar substitute that browns and caramelizes just like sugar. Swerve is made from ingredients found in select fruits and starchy root vegetables and contains no artificial ingredients, preservatives, or flavors.

Like Lankanto, Swerve has a 0% impact on blood sugar.

If you are a fan of stevia, you can use the stevia and erythritol-based brand Pyure in this recipe.

However, it’s important to note that if you are using Pyure, you will want to use half the amount called for in this recipe since it’s a much sweeter option.

You will need a confectioner’s sugar substitute for the donut icing. Thankfully, both Lakanto and Swerve have great ones.

OOOFlavors Strawberry Extract

You may have noticed that I added a couple of drops of oooflavor ‘s fresh strawberry concentrate to the icing. All of their extracts and concentrates are unsweetened and can safely be enjoyed while doing keto.

Can you make these donuts without the extract? Sure, but if, like me, you want a real boost in strawberry flavor, then I recommend you get your hands on some. Otherwise, feel free to substitute with vanilla extract

This recipe is brimming with bright strawberry flavor, that's because these low carb strawberry donuts feature fresh strawberries in the donut batter and in the homemade sugar-free jam that is drizzled on top of the donuts, plus a strawberry icing. It's a strawberry lover's dream of a donut.

Keto Strawberry Donuts

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease well two 6-cavity donut pans.
  3. Melt 1/4 cup unsalted butter and set it aside.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the almond flour, coconut flour, sugar substitute, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  5. To the dry ingredients, add the sour cream, melted butter, vanilla extract, and the three eggs one at a time.
  6. Mix the batter using an electric mixer until fully incorporated. 
  7. Fold in the chopped strawberries.
  8. Pipe the batter into the two prepared donut pans. I added the batter to a large zip lock bag, cut the tip of it, and then piped it into the donut pan cavities. 
  9. I lightly tapped the batter into the donut pans using my fingers.
  10. Note that you will fill the donut pans just to the rim because these donuts do not rise much.
  11. Bake donuts for 25-30 minutes until they are fully cooked. You can insert a toothpick, and it comes out clean.
  12. Allow the keto donuts to fully cool at room temperature before removing them from the mold.
  13. Once the donuts are removed from the donut mold, place them on a baking rack and make the icing and strawberry jam sauce.

Keto Strawberry Icing

    1. Melt the butter and add it to a medium-sized bowl.
    2. To the bowl, add the confectioner's sugar substitute, strawberry extract, and sea salt. Mix well, and then add the hot water. Add three tablespoons; add more if the consistency is too thick.
    3. In the bowl, add the confectioners, sugar substitute, strawberry extract, and sea salt.
    4. Quickly dip the donuts into the icing and set them on a baking rack to dry. The donuts will form a thin, frosted coating on the surface.

Keto Strawberry Jam Sauce

  1. In a small saucepan, add all the ingredients, including the gelatin powder, and cook all the ingredients over medium heat.
  2. Stir the strawberry sauce constantly, simmer, and cook for 4-5 minutes. Allow the sauce to cool at room temperature.
  3. Once the donuts have been iced, you can drizzle a small amount of jam over the top.
  4. You will have leftover strawberry jam sauce since you only add a tablespoon of sauce to each donut.
  5. This sauce can be stored in a small glass jar in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Store Your Donuts

    1. Once the donut's icing has been set, store them in the refrigerator in a sealed container for up to 5 days. You can place the donuts on each other since the icing hardens. You can also freeze your donuts by placing them in a freezer-proof container for up to 3 weeks. I do not recommend you freeze the donuts with the strawberry jam sauce on top.
    2. Allow your donuts to come to room temperature for the best flavor.
