How To Make Keto Baked Mozzarella Cheese Sticks
Making and baking low-carb mozzarella cheese sticks is pretty straightforward since it’s made with simple ingredients.
Keep in mind that you will need to first remove the string cheese from their wrappers, slice them in half crosswise, and freeze them for at least an hour prior to adding the keto breading.
When ready to bake, set aside two medium-sized bowls for the coating. In one bowl, add all the dry ingredients (breading) and combine well.
In the second bowl, whisk the two eggs and add water for the egg wash.
You’ll then need to work in small batches and dip each frozen cheese stick in the egg wash, followed by the coating.
Be sure to coat each cheese stick completely, including the ends. Repeat the process for double coating; it’s what produces the best results.
It’s important to only do a couple of cheese sticks at a time, or the egg mixture will freeze onto the cheese and not allow the coating to adhere to the sticks.
Then, place the breaded cheese mozzarella sticks back in the freezer on the parchment-lined baking sheet for a minimum of 30 minutes.
This extra step will make sure the mozzarella sticks stay intact when baking.
Once ready to bake, preheat the oven to 375 degrees. You will be baking these in the lower third of the oven, so adjust the baking racks if needed.
Be sure that the cheese sticks are not arranged too closely. Lightly coat the sticks with olive oil cooking spray or using a pastry brush, and brush the top and sides of each mozzarella stick.
This ensures you have a crispy coating that tastes like they have been fried without excess oil.
Yup, there is no need to deal with hot oil or worry about getting the oil temperature perfect.
