With a name that includes sugar, you may be wondering how on earth they can be low-carb donuts. Well, rest assured that these lovely donuts are void of sugar.

The use of a monk fruit sweetener makes sure that these stay within your keto macros and in ketosis

These cake donuts have a moist, tender crumb thanks to the addition of sour cream. This also gives them that old-fashioned flavor we know and love.

I opted to use a combination of almond and coconut flour because it also plays a role in getting the perfect cake donut texture.

Say goodbye to Dunkin Donuts with a recipe for low-carb donuts that will fool your taste buds.

The only thing these tasty treats need, which taste as yummy as traditional donuts, is a cup of coffee!

How To Make Keto Cinnamon Sugar Donuts

Don’t you love it when a recipe comes together quickly? Well, that’s what this fuss-free keto donut recipe provides.

To make your low-carb cinnamon sugar donuts, you’ll need to preheat your oven to 350 degrees and properly grease your donut molds.

I used a silicone donut pan, but you can use a non-stick donut pan if you prefer.

You’ll combine the dry ingredients—the almond and coconut flour, sugar substitute, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt—in a large mixing bowl.

In a separate bowl, add the sour cream, melted butter, whole eggs, and vanilla extract and combine well. I recommend you use an electric mixer to ensure the batter is well incorporated.

Then, add the wet ingredients to the wet ingredients and combine well.

Next, to easily add the batter into the donut molds, I recommend using a piping bag or placing the donut batter into a large ziplock bag and snipping off the tip of one of the corners.

I like silicone molds, but a non-stick donut baking pan will also work. In both instances, you will need to grease the cavity of the molds.

To ensure even baking, I place my silicone molds on a cookie sheet. This also makes it easier when it comes time to take it out of the oven.

The bake time will be around 25–30 minutes. Bake until golden brown and when an inserted toothpick comes out clean.

After the donuts are baked and cooled, you’ll make the icing and then allow the icing to set by placing your donuts on a baking rack.

Sugar-Free Sweetener Options

As far as which sugar substitute to use for these keto cinnamon donuts, I have a few recommendations. If you are a regular on our site, you know I’m a fan of Lakanto Monk Fruit.

This is because the texture of Lakanto is spot on since there is barely any aftertaste. It is a monk fruit and erythritol blend.

In the case of this low-carb donut recipe, I went with their brown sugar substitute for the donut batter and their white granulated sugar substitute for the cinnamon sugar topping, but feel free to use either one entirely in the recipe.

I love that Lakanto Monk Fruit is all-natural. Its sweetness comes from antioxidants called mogrosides instead of fructose or sucrose. It has zero calories and zero glycemic impact.

I’m also partial to Swerve, another erythritol blend.  It works well in this keto donut recipe and is a great choice if you are looking for a sugar substitute with no bitter aftertaste and measures just like sugar.

Swerve is also a sugar substitute that browns and caramelizes like sugar. It is made from ingredients found in select fruits and starchy root vegetables and contains no artificial ingredients, preservatives, or flavors.

Like Lankanto, Swerve has a 0% impact on blood sugar.

If you are a fan of stevia, you can use the stevia and erythritol-based brand Pyure in this recipe.

However, it’s important to note that if you use Pyure, you will want to use half the amount called for in this recipe since it’s a much sweeter option.

I will also add that if using a stevia blend, you will use less of the sugar-cinnamon coating to avoid it being overly sweet.

I sure hope you will give this keto cinnamon donut recipe a try.

Instructions

Keto Sour Cream Donuts

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease well two 6-cavity donut pans.
  3. Melt 1/4 cup unsalted butter and set aside.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the almond flour, coconut flour, sugar substitute, baking powder, cinnamon powder, nutmeg, and salt until they are well combined.
  5. To the dry ingredients, add the sour cream, melted butter, vanilla extract, and the 3 eggs one at a time.
  6. Mix the batter using an electric mixer until fully incorporated.
  7. Pipe the batter into the two prepared donut pans. I added the batter to a large zip-lock bag, cut the tip off, and then piped the batter into the donut pan cavities.
  8. I lightly tapped the batter into the donut pans using my fingers.
  9. Note that you will fill the donut pans just to the rim because these donuts do not rise much.
  10. Bake donuts for 25-30 minutes until they are fully cooked. You can insert a toothpick, and it comes out clean.
  11. Allow the keto donuts to fully cool at room temperature before removing them from the mold.
  12. Once the donuts are removed from the donut molds, place them on a baking rack. Proceed to make the cinnamon sugar topping.

Keto Cinnamon Sugar Topping

  1. Melt the butter and add it to a small bowl large enough to dunk the donuts in. Set aside.
  2. In another bowl, mix the sugar substitute, cinnamon, and salt and set aside.
  3. Once the donuts have come out of the oven, allow them to fully cool.
  4. I dunk each donut individually into the melted, cooled butter and then quickly into the cinnamon-sugar mixture. I only added the topping to one side of the donut, and the nutritional facts reflect this.
  5. Once the donuts have their cinnamon sugar coating, place them back on the baking rack to set for about five minutes.

Storing Your Donuts

  1. Store your donuts in a plastic container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze them in a freezer container for up to 3 weeks.
  2. Allow your donuts to come to room temperature for the best flavor.

Can you deep or shallow fry them? I don't have a donut pan so was thinking if I used my smallest saucepan I could get enough oil in there without wasting a whole lot, then wouldn't have to buy another thing haha

Hi April, I have not tested frying them. Since the batter is thick, I believe, in theory, it should work. Let me know if you try frying them.

I'm allergic to coconut, can I use all almond flour or replace with a gf flour?

Hilda Solares

Shannon, you can use our almond flour pound cake recipe as the base for the donuts if you cannot consume coconut.

I used a mini silicone bundt pan brushed with butter, cut the recipe in half, but used the same amount of vanilla and baking powder, filled them half way, it made 5 donuts, they came out fantabulous! Will definitely be making these again, thank you for another great recipe!

Doughnuts! Cake ones are my favorite! I made your above mentioned sour cream (can't scroll so I hope I'm right) donuts and, as Mary Berry would say, "They're scrummy!" Can't wait to bake these!
